National Marine Sanctuary Foundation awards $139,000 in annual Ocean Awareness Grants

Silver Spring, Md. – The National Marine Sanctuary Foundation is proud to announce eight awardees of the 2011 Ernest F. Hollings Ocean Awareness Trust Fund. Organizations across the country submitted proposals about marine mammals, non-point source pollution, marine debris, human health, and ocean acidification. NMSF received nearly double the number of proposals it did in 2010. The 2011 Hollings Grant recipients are:

Bruckner Chase Ocean Positive ($10,000) American Samoa
2Samoas/1Ocean

Endurance swimmer Bruckner Chase will talk to community groups in independent and American Samoa to inspire action for human and ocean health. This will be followed by two long-distance solo swims. These efforts will be professionally filmed and screened at an international film festival.
